Hexham business man continues growth in financial services sector

Local business man Bruce Martin – who is a founding partner of Newcastle based JMH Financial – is currently taking on 2 new members of staff.

The firm – which was founded by 3 experienced mortgage and protection advisers in April 2023 – is on track to have 10 members of staff by the end of the summer.

“Currently we are bringing in another experienced mortgage and protection adviser, and we have just recruited a new administrator who will begin working in the office in September”, said Bruce.

When asked why he thought the business was growing so fast – he said – “I think it’s a few things – the founding partners of the firm had years of experience working in financial services in Newcastle already so we have a pretty big network of people to try and recruit across. I do think that mainly it comes down to the quality of service that we are offering as well as our work ethic. In the first few months we had to spend a lot of money on advertising but in the last year the whole business has pretty much ran only from word of mouth referrals – which for still quite a young business is a great achievement and I think a great testimony for how happy our clients have been with the service.”

“We leased a large office in Hoults Yard, Newcastle, back in January that was too big for us back then but we were confident we would be able to create a nice working environment that other advisers would want to join – this has definitely helped – and then the other thing is that we have only allowed mortgage and protection advisers to join us if they have over 4 years’ experience. This means the service we offer is always a great one which helps with our reputation, but also it means our new advisers don’t need too much support from me meaning I’m free to keep getting our name out there, helping people with their finances and speaking to new potential recruits”.

When asked about his plans for the future and where he would like to be in 12 months time – Bruce said he aims to build the company up to 15 members and then pause. “That’s a strong and realistic goal I think – but I would want to park it there for a while – I think once you go beyond that figure the way the business runs completely changes and for now we want to keep the small knit team atmosphere going for a while”.
